Getting Started: How to Display a Map

Mapping Layers allow users to display spatial data geographically according to the assigned Legend styling. These can be viewed in conjunction with other system features to build layers of different kinds of mapped data. Read more about how to interpret Mapping Layers here.

To display a Mapping Layer follow the steps below:

How to Load a Map

  1. Inside 'Map Tools' select the option 'Mapping Layers', which will open a pop-up directory of available variables.

  2. Locate a desired variable in the “Mapping Layers” directory pop-up by typing a keyword in the search bar or alternatively find it manually by navigating through the drop down box under ‘Select a Category’.

  3. The Map will load on the Google Map. Depending on the type of Map, the Legend, as well as the ability to adjust index opacity and the data benchmark region will also be loaded within the popup.

  4. Use “Saved View” or “Address Search” inside “Map Tools” to find a particular area of interest.

Address search helps users easily find places on the map without having to manually pan across. Address Search calls upon Google’s API, allowing it to search for addresses, Points of Interest, geographic areas, towns, etc. To perform an address search:

  1. Use the Address Search function or pan around the map to find the location you wish to save

  2. Select “MAP TOOLS” -> “Saved Views” after finding the location you wish to save.
