Mapping and Reporting Data: Introduction to Data in Explorer
Spatial Data is held in the Explorer at a Census Area level. With this spatial data users can perform two key functions:
Mapping
Analytical Reporting
The spatial data stored can consist of multiple variables including demographics, created audiences, user uploaded data, etc.
Mapping
Through the Mapping Tool, users can get a quick overview of a selected variable in terms of a cold to hot Index map.
Analytical Reporting
Through Analytical Reporting, the spatial data can be aggregated and combined to produce meaningful insights and comparison of locations. This can be done as locations within a Network have the Trade Areas constructed at a Census Area level.
Geographical Area Reports
Supplied as part of Explorer the Common Networks, which include standard geographical frameworks such as Postcode, Suburbs, SA2 and more. In using these Networks the Census Area level can be aggregated to a higher geography, through the likes of a “Site Profile” or “Rank Report”.
Custom Data
Uploaded Variables
Users can upload Census Area level data files to create Datapack Variables. These can be displayed as either Decimal, Dollar, Percent or Ratio types, and any existing Variable can be used as the base for calculating the Uploaded Variable's Penertation / % and Index Scores.
Combined Variables
Existing Variables can be combined to create new Variables, either by adding up to 10 together or subtracting 1 from another. Scaling factors can be also be applied to the combined result, multiplying the resulting values by the entered factor. These Variables are located under 'Combined Variable' Datapacks within the 'My Custom Data' Parent Category.
Audience Finder
Audience Finder allows users to build audience definitions based on a combination of person & household level characteristics and geodemographics. The Census Area level counts of defined audiences can then be saved as Variables, and will be located under 'Audience Finder' Datapacks within the 'My Custom Data' Parent Category.
How is the data organised?
The data is structured as a hierarchy, with the company/product name at the top and the individual variable at the bottom.
Parent Category (eg RDA Research)
Category (eg geoTribes System)
Datapack (eg geoTribes Segments)
Variable (eg T1. Rockafellas)
