Edit your Network: Update location Attributes

Location Attributes represent metadata that can be associated with a location that are otherwise not readily available in geoTribes Explorer. Examples of useful Location Attributes can include location identifiers (i.e. store codes, asset IDs, etc.), geographic qualifiers (i.e. Postcode of location) and explicit location data (i.e. store size, annual revenue, or other data not available in Explorer). Location Attributes can be used in a variety of ways to enhance analysis or otherwise streamline processes, i.e. through other functions such as “Add Tags from List”.

Note: If looking to update all or a large number of location attributes it may be easiest to perform these edits on a Definition File re-uploading these values into a new Network.

1. Uploading/Edit Location Attributes - Step by Step

Uploading/Editing Location Attributes by location allows users to perform edits on current attributes within locations. This is preferable if there are small changes that needs to be made for a few locations or newly added locations without values. If new Location Attributes need to be added or their are multiple locations that require updating, users can edit their “Definition File”, which can then be uploaded into the Explorer. To read more on this consult the last slide of the carousel in “Step 2: Edit the Definition File” here.

To update a locations values select the Network to perform the update on:

  1. Select “Edit Active Network” then “Add/Edit Location” and click on or search for the location.

  2. Click under “6. Location Attributes” Edit.

  3. Update the Network’s attributes under “Value”, ensure that the updated value fits within the variables definition.

  4. Select “Save” in the Edit Location Attributes Pop up.

  5. Select “Save Location”.

2. Updating Location Attribute Display

Before updating how the Location Attributes are displayed in the Network it is important to note:

  1. When redefining an attribute as either numeric or character, validate what they’re being redefining as is valid with their current values. E.g. a numeric value can not be defined as a character attribute.

  2. For numeric values its important to use the correct format for visualising the display. E.g. Dollar ($) for Annual Income.

To update the Network display for Location Attributes:

  1. Select the Network for analysis

  2. Click “Edit Active Network” then “Update Location Attributes”, users will then be presented with a pop up containing all of the attributes with their definitions.

Available updates:
