Tutorials: Checking Geocoding Accuracy
1. Prepare Definition File
2. Check Geocoding Quality
3. Edit Locations
Ideally Networks are created using Coordinates in the Definition File to place Location points, however if these are not available the Explorer includes a Google Maps Geocoding Service. This process converts addresses into Coordinates for placing the Location point. Accuracy is not always guaranteed, and it is highly recommended that the sites be checked once uploaded.
Step 1: Prepare Definition File
Upload a Network Definition File with the 'FullAddress' column. It is best to use full street addresses formatted as: Number Street, Suburb, City/Region, State Postcode. For example: 168 Walker Street North Sydney NSW 2060.
Step 2: Check Geocoding Quality
After loading the Network Definition File into the system, Explorer will generate the Network and assign Tags to the sites based on the quality of the Google geocoding. With the Display Rules filter the visibility of Locations by their level of accuracy.
Note: The order of accuracy from most to least: "Exact Address", "Estimated Address", then "Coarse".
The Submitted Address and geocoder Matched Address for each individual Location are visible both within the pop up menu that opens when clicking on the Location pin, and when editing the Location.
Note: Upon moving the pin the Address Details will no longer be available for that Location.
Step 3: Edit Locations
To edit Locations with a particular Tag, such as 'Coarse' & 'Estimated Address', apply a filter/change the visibility as outlined in Step 2. This will restrict the visible Locations in the following process to just those sites.
With the 'Edit Network' menu select 'Add/Edit a Location' from the Network Menu, then select a Location to edit.
Under '1. Point Placement' select 'Drop / Redrop Pin' and click a spot on the Map at the intended address. Tip: Use the search feature in the 'Map Tools'.
Under '3. Trade Areas' specify the distance to regenerate the Trade Areas from the new point placement.
Delete the 'Tags' from Step 2. which was acting as a filter, and 'Save Location'. That Location will now not appear in the drop down list of Locations.
Repeat for the rest of the Locations.
